StoryWalks were created in 2007 by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont. The purpose of StoryWalks is to combine reading with the outdoors and exercise. Since their creation, they have become widely adopted by schools & libraries across the country. Traditionally, StoryWalks were typically printed and laminated, then posted on wooden stakes or fences. Today, they are being manufactured by sign companies with durability in mind to last longer.
What are StoryWalk Exhibits?
StoryWalk Exhibits are permanent display structures along a path or trail that contain pages of books that you can read as you walk. In a world filled with phone screens and television, StoryWalks provide an outlet for families to get some fresh air and exercise. What can I expect when orderering StoryWalk Exhibits from Pannier?

It is very convenient to add pages to your StoryWalk - simply unscrew the two screws at the top of the frame, remove the top piece along with the clear acrylic piece, and then add your pages. Once your frame is reassembled, you are all set!
Pannier StoryWalks are constructed from aluminum and powder coated to ensure that they last for many years to come.
Tips For Planning Your StoryWalk
To plan your StoryWalk, choose an interactive book that can be read with a large group or a small group. Make sure the amount of pages will equal out to the amount of StoryWalks or it is less of the amount of StoryWalk Exhibits that you have on your path or trail. Storywalk ideas for advertising your display could include posting about it ahead of time on social media, local newspapers, and flyers throughout your community. An example of this could include the cover page of your book along with a caption to give potential visitors a preview of what they can expect to read in advance.
Backer Panels
Made of Pannier’s durable Fiberglass Embedded material, Backer Panels function as the perfect background for the story on display. Choose from a wide variety of designs from solid colors and fun patterns to school-specific branding and nature scenes.
Attach the laminated story pages to the Backer Panel and place a clear sheet of acrylic on top for an extra layer of protection. Slide the panels and story into the StoryWalk® Exhibit and leave it for all to enjoy! Want to switch up the background to match the story being displayed? No problem! StoryWalk® Backer Panels are easily interchangeable. View available color and pattern options below or contact us for a custom design!

Overall Benefits
Encourages Reading
StoryWalks make reading a more engaging and interactive experience. By pairing storytelling with outdoor exploration, they can foster a love for books and reading, especially for young children.
By walking through a story, children practice literacy skills such as word recognition, sequencing, and comprehension in a fun and natural setting.
Access to Books For All
A StoryWalk can be set up in a park or public space, making it a free and accessible way for people to enjoy stories regardless of their background or financial situation.
Combines Reading with Exercise
Since StoryWalks take place outdoors, they promote walking and other physical activity, encouraging children and adults to move while they read. This can be especially beneficial in areas where physical activity opportunities are limited.
Brings People Together
StoryWalks can be enjoyed by families, schools, neighbors, and visitors, helping to create a sense of community and shared experience. It can serve as a gathering point where people of all ages meet and interact.
Community Pride
A StoryWalk in a public space can create pride and ownership in the community, especially if the stories chosen reflect local culture, history, or nature.
